On Saturday 16th December the William Collyn Community Centre was full of Christmas Cheer. Our Christmas Fayre was a great success and all the stalls were very very busy. Father Christmas met with lots of the children and reminded them all to ‘be good’. The children enjoyed lots of the activities and there were some lucky winners of raffle prizes and festive hampers. A big thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped, and also a big thank you to everyone who came along and supported the event.

An amazing turnout of over 350 visitors enjoyed Christmas shopping amongst the wide range of local traders there on the day. There was a FREE Santa’s grotto for the children, along with Christmas Crafts and Face-painting hosted by FOGG (Friends of Girton Glebe). In addition to the Guess The Weight Of The Cake, Tombola and Girton Calendar stands, attendees were treated to a very special Christmas Carol performance from the Girton Glebe Primary School Choir. And as if that weren’t enough, there was plenty of festive food (and drink) courtesy of Cakes by Lexi, Steak & Honour and Mulled Wine from members of the Girton Feast team.

Tom Lee, William Collyn Community Centre Manager said: “The best thing about working in this community is that everyone joins in, and the atmosphere is lovely. Saturday’s event epitomised all that is great in Girton. It’s also the support from the local businesses and organisations that makes the difference – a special thanks go to Alexia Green (Cakes by Lexi) Yvonne Murray (Girton Parish Council), without them this would not have been possible. The three of us met only five weeks ago with the idea to bring a Christmas event to the village. Lots of hours of planning have gone into this and we are absolutely delighted with how it went and the lovely messages we have received ”

Thank you to everyone who bought a raffle ticket. We had 55 raffle prizes up for grabs all of which were donated by local businesses and residents. We are extremely grateful for your generosity as funds were raised in support of two local charities nominated by the community. Congratulations to all our winners.

The William Collyn Community Centre is committed to putting on events throughout the year that everyone in the village can enjoy. Our aim is to make the Christmas Fayre an annual event. We cannot wait until next year!
