Body Control Pilates

Jane Mansley
Thursday evenings at 7:45pm (ending at 8:45pm)
07527 156564

Pilates is a mindful exercise system suitable for all ages and abilities. It re-educates the mind and body to improve posture and promote efficient, graceful movement. Although perhaps most famous for developing core strength, Pilates is a system that evenly strengthens the whole body. Those who try Pilates quickly become devotees, and find that their Pilates sessions are a highlight of the week – as they leave each class feeling lighter, stronger and more relaxed. The Body Control Pilates® approach is based on medical research and aims to gain complete control of both body and mind.

Clinical Rehabilitation Pilates

Emma Mersseman
Every Tuesday at 5:00pm (ending at 6:00pm)

This class is led by and experienced Osteopath and is built to bridge the gap between injury and returning to full function and capability. The principles of the class are based on body movement coordination and technique, the focus is on combining strength and mobility to retrain the body and develop spinal and pelvic stability as the base of support. Whilst regaining improved physical function, this will aim to prevent compensatory movement patterns that can occur after injury.

The weekly class is usually carried over a six week progressive program.

The six week class fee will be required on confirmation.

£15 per class, total six week cost of £90.

A maximum of 8 people in each class.

Loose clothing should be worn.

A short initial assessment will need to be completed if I haven’t treated you before.

More six week programs are currently being arranged in addition so please contact me if you’re interested.

Pilates Explore

Miranda de Vries
Friday evenings at 5:30pm (ending at 6:30pm)
07725 257711

It does not matter if you are new to exercise or are already fit, Mi-Time offers Pilates classes for all levels. Stretch, tone and connect your body, mind and spirit.

In all the classes, the focus is on understanding how our body moves. This means that they are not just ‘exercise classes’. I take plenty of time to explain things and you will get time to explore the movements.

I have been teaching Pilates since 2004 and am accredited to the level of Advanced Matwork. The Pilates classes that i teach incorporate bits from all sorts of systems that i find useful. And as time goes on I am discovering more and more goodies. I like to break down the movements into smaller elements and practice these first. A big help with this is FlexAware®, which is based on the Feldenkrais teachings. I am the first instructor in the UK teaching FlexAware®.

Tai Chi Class

George Thorpe
Thursdays at 11:30am (ending at 12:30pm)

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi is one of many physical exercises emanating from China. On a scale from fast and robust martial arts such as Kung Fu at one end and the static forms of qi gong such as stand-like –a-tree at the other, we are near the gentle end and practise a slow flowing style without contact or competition.  Our movements are centred on our Tan Tien, which is at the centre of the abdomen, and we turn and extend from here.

Our school, which is based in France, is known as the Inner Way School, and we include slow abdominal breathing, and the flow of Chi energy in our teaching.

Our short hand form (24 postures) is similar to the “Beijing” short form.

What happens at Classes?

For regular pupils classes are in three sections;

Warm-up exercises including breathing

Qi Gong exercises to promote balance, flexibility and flow of Chi

Learning (parts of) the form.

For beginners there is more emphasis on practising Qi Gong, and balance

Can anyone do Tai Chi?

Most people who can stand for some time and walk unaided will be capable of enjoying Tai Chi. Those who have mobility issues can join in some of it while seated. Tai Chi can aid mobility, balance and flexibility but you will get more out of it if you practise between classes!

When are the classes?

Weekly classes return on the 9th Jan 2020 excluding 30th Jan, 6th Feb & 19th March.

Classes will cost £5 payable on the day. Wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes.
