Helen Johnson has started work as the new Centre Manager at William Collyn Community Centre, employed by Cambridgeshire ACRE which is carrying out the day-to-day running of the facility on behalf of Girton Town Charity.

Helen’s role will include ensuring that the Centre is firmly embedded into the local Girton community and is one of the options for anyone seeking to arrange an event, whether it’s community groups, families or businesses.

Speaking about her new post, Helen said: “The role sounds really interesting and is a great new challenge for me. I have had experience of managing a village pub and I am also a Trustee of my own village hall. The combination of these two things, as well as my experience in running events, made it seem the perfect fit for me. It is also a good opportunity to get involved with a community rather than big corporations.

“I think the Centre is a superb facility, well-designed and built to the highest standards. It is very modern and bright and a flexible space that can be utilised for so many things.

“What I am looking forward to most is creating a busy and thriving Centre with lots going on for the community to engage with. I am keen to meet the regular hirers and the users so that we can build a varied programme of regular activities for all, as well as one-off bespoke events – and I’ll be posting regular updates on social media.”

For the last six years, Helen was a Senior Events Coordinator for a corporate events company near Huntingdon, organising family fun days, dinners and entertainment, team building and conferences. Her role also included working at some well-known events such as Wimbledon, The Ryder Cup, London Fashion Week and The Cheltenham Gold Cup.
